ALTA/NSPS & Commercial Surveys

Although the basic surveying principles are the same, commercial surveys are more complex than a residential survey due to drainage, ingress/egress and reciprocal easements together with development and zoning restrictions. With each state having different details for the minimum technical standards for a boundary survey, lenders, attorneys, title company and surveyors needed a national standard. To develop a national standard for a commercial survey the American Land Title Association (ALTA) partnered with the National Society of Professional Surveyor (NSPS) to create the ALTA/NSPS Minimum Standard Detail Requirements for ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys.
